DU professor gets support from academics, activists Staff Reporter Share · print · T+ Several academics and activists on Thursday issued a public statement against the recent police raid at Prof. Saibaba premises in Delhi University’s Gwyer Hall. Premeditated attempts “We express our deep concern over premeditated attempts to harass, frame and implicate Dr. G.N. Saibaba under the draconian provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This began with the sudden and arbitrary search at his residence in the North Campus of DU on the basis of a search warrant to recover “stolen property”. Not finding any stolen property, the police confiscated Dr. Saibaba’s personal property like a laptop, pen drives, hard drives, mobile phones, and college documents and files, among other things, none of which remotely resembled stolen property,” said the statement signed by writer and activist Arundathi Roy, JNU professors Jayati Ghosh and Romila Thapar, Kavita Krishnan of the CPI (ML), DUTA president Nandita Narain, lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan and filmmaker Sanjay Kak, among others. Standard strategies “The motive of the investigative team becomes clear from the nature of items confiscated. Now, the police have served a summon to Dr. G.N. Saibaba to appear for enquiry either in Nagpur or any place outside Delhi. All these are standard strategies employed by the police and intelligence agencies while framing anyone who raises their voice against the killings, incarceration and other human rights violation of Adivasis, by branding them as Maoists,” added the statement.
