DUP calls for action against Ardoyne Fleadh hate speech North Belfast DUP Councillor Lee Reynolds has called for the authorities to act following the delivery of a hate speech and the glorification of terrorism at the Ardoyne Fleadh on Sunday night. Councillor Reynolds said: “This turn of events came as no surprise to the DUP and was one of the reasons why we have opposed the licensing of this event. Those parties (Sinn Fein, SDLP and Alliance) who gave it the green light and the Lord Mayor who has defended the event from criticism in the past must be made accountable for their decisions. The DUP has submitted a formal complaint to the PSNI about the anti-British and anti-Protestant hate speech and the glorification of terrorism at this event. The DUP will keep a close eye on this investigation considering the PSNI’s own chequered history around the licensing of this event. This event was supported by the Irish government’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Belfast City Council, the Community Relations Council and the Department of Cultural, Arts and Leisure. This type of behaviour should be considered justifiable grounds for the withdrawal of all public funding. Also the sponsors, Ladbrokes and the Flax Trust, should be taking steps to disassociate themselves from this sectarian bile.” Notes to editors 1. Hate speech Transcript As we stand here tonight in Ardoyne were well aware that here in the occupied six counties of Ireland there are still over five thousand British soldiers parading around the streets of Ireland as if they owned it. Its about time that they took down their little Union jacks, its about time that they got all their Orange comrades together, its about time that they loaded up the bus and its about time that they all f**ked off back to England where they came from! https://youtube/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=obAuGlMEb64&app=desktop “Go Home British Soldiers Go On Home” Performed by The Druids at Ardoyne Fleadh 2014 2. Glorification of Terrorism https://youtube/watch?v=PUe_Hy5lXPs “The Celtic Symphony” Performed by The Druids at Ardoyne Fleadh 2014 Song includes chanting of “Ooh, ah, up the ‘RA” and “The I, the I, the IRA” 3. PSNI and Event licensing The PSNI report in support of the 2013 Licence led to an Ombudsman Complaint by the DUP. It was upheld that the officer responsible for preparing it had shown bias and inaccuracies in the report. The same officer helped produce this year’s 2014 PSNI report in support of the event.
