Dad is in recovery. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support. Surgery went well. A 12 Guage shotgun shell entered his lower forearm, shattered into pellets and traveled up his arm to his elbow. They removed about 13 fragments and left about 30. Amazingly there doesnt appear to be any blood vessel or bone damage. They expect minimal nerve damage. However he lost a significant amount of muscle. They plan to keep him in the hospital a couple days and if there arent any complications he will go home. They will leave the incision (about 12 inches in length) open and use a wound vac to shrink the area. After a couple weeks he will return to the hospital for a skin graft. He will require a long recovery with intensive physical therapy. He is expected to regain most of the function.
