Dadgummit, this is a hard read. It doesnt vilify everyone in the mass production of pork, but it shows what can happen. Ive noticed the billboard on I-40 in Eastern NC that says Traffic Not Moving? Think about never moving. (with a picture of a pig in a pen so tight it cant move). Ive seen that billboard a couple of times and just let it slide out of my consciousness. Im not one of those people who buys only humane and local meat products, mainly due to cost and convenience, but suppose it may be time to move that direction... and just eat more vegetarian meals. On a kinda related note, albeit much more positive, I heard an interesting Science Friday today -- they talked about the nutty Kellogg brother, who was very into health food and vegetarianism. He was a doctor at a Sanitarium near North Bend and was the first to make peanut butter, soy milk and a bunch of other things. He made the first exercise regime and released it on 12 77rpm records. He was also really into to poop. He cultivated friendship with celebrities of the day, including scientists and presidents and more.
