Dahlonega 1%ers say NO to Jobs for 50-200 99%ers. According to Todays Dahlonega Nugget, Fieldale Farms wanted to open a dead chicken processing plant right next to Achasta on the South. The local 1%ers rose up and said no so the jobs went away. Apparently 1%ers Rule even here in Dahlonega where many folks live in poverty. The 1%ers were said to have feared that the dead chicken processing plant would have lowered their property tax values. Meanwhile Fieldale Farms pays $13,000 a year in property taxes for the 10.5 acre parcel assessed at $1 million, $400,000 for the land and $600,000 for an apparently vacant building. They have owned the property since 1984. This is a prime piece of property on the Dahlonega Gateway.What else can this property be used for if the 1%ers have veto power?
