Daily Devotion - 10-21-2014 - Pastor Hugh Quinn - Death and Life Pt.1 “For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He Himself also likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14,15) The Word here points out the fact that humans are and have always been enslaved by the fear of death. One of the reasons God became a Man was to destroy (the Greek word means “to render useless”) the devil; and in so doing, free us from this tormenting fear. Jesus declared that he came that we might have Life; that He was the Resurrection and the Life; and He proved it by rising from the dead! (See John 10:10, John 11:25, Luke 24:5,6) Jesus is alive! He came to save us from our sins and death ought not to torment us anymore. Yet we still grieve at the loss of a loved one. We still feel the pain and sorrow. Yet, we sorrow not as others, which have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13) for us, as believers, we can have great confidence that death is not the end. Jesus has prepared a place for us, and will come again to get us and take us to His Father’s House where we can be with Him. (John 14) The reality of the truth of eternity will become very real to us as we meditate upon this truth; recognizing that this life is not all there is. Our future is so very bright in Christ.
