Daily Devotion by Raul Ries Monday - November 03, 2014 OBEDIENT & BLESSED 1 Samuel 15:27-28 And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore. So Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.” Saul should have never torn Samuel’s robe. What does it show you? He did not listen. When he tore Samuel’s robe, it reflected what the Lord was going to do, as He would tear the kingdom of Israel from Saul. It was a done deal. Saul was done! Notice, God had already chosen someone to take Saul’s place, one of Saul’s neighbors. We know it will be David. It is so cool because God was already preparing David. He would remove Saul, He would put David on the throne, but Saul had to be killed, so David could take the throne. I see two important lessons here. First, if we are not faithful to the calling God puts on our lives, He will replace us. He will remove His anointing from our foreheads and put us on the shelf. He will put someone else in our place who will be obedient to the call. The second thing I see is God’s will is done in spite of us. Saul was not obedient to the Lord and when he was told he was done, he did not step aside. He ignored the judgment of the Lord and tried to keep his position as king. His disobedience continued and grew. All God wants from us is obedience. He calls us and raises us up, but if we rebel, He will take us down. Be obedient and be blessed! Only in obedience can we discover the great joy of the will of God. ~Sinclair Ferguson~
