Daily Devotion by Raul Ries THURSDAY, January 1, 2015 New Year’s Day For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit... 1 Peter 3:17-18 Today, we begin another year, and as we have seen over the past few years, a new year does not mean everything will be great. Unfortunately, we cannot leave last year behind us and start over. Many have had great tragedies in their lives and the results of those events are following them into the new year. You may think this is going to be a depressing devotion, but it is not. I think it is important to look at our lives and the situations we face every day and put them in the light of Christ. Not one person who has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior is walking through lives tragedies all by themselves. The Lord is right beside you and right beside me, giving us the strength and comfort to get through any trial. As we look at this world, we see great persecution of the church growing. It is no longer something we read about in another country. It is right here in our own cities and states. Atheist groups and the LGBT are suing one Christian company after another. People are facing great trials. There are many who think Christians should just throw in the towel and do whatever these special interests groups want, but I say, “Remember the early church. Remember the Christians who faced Rome’s lions.” They stood with the Lord with great threat to their lives. Today, we face the lions and have to choose who we will follow: God or man. God has not departed because the day is dark. ~Vance Havner~
