Daily Devotion by Raul Ries WEDNESDAY August 28, 2013 Peace in Unity Ephesians 4:3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Yesterday, we looked at the characteristics we should possess as Christians. Paul called us to be longsuffering and bear with one another. Why? Only in humility and lowliness can the church come together in unity of the Spirit and achieve the peace God has for us. In verse 3, Paul started with the word endeavoring. In Greek, the word is spoudazō and it means “to make haste or give diligence.” Paul told them to work hard to keep the unity of the Spirit. I think it important for us to realize, sometimes the problem is not with the other person. Sometimes, we are the problem. That is why we have to search our hearts and allow God to reveal where we may be falling short—when we are the cause of disunity. When I deal with me, God will speak to me, and then I can begin to restore. I cannot change other people. If they do not want to do what is right, it is between them and the Lord. I can wash my hands and say, I am clean and I am going to do what God has called me to do. Then, I can have the peace of God. God wants to make sure you are right before Him. If you have something against someone, go home and get on your face before God and ask Him how you can make it right. You want to make sure you are right with the Lord, so He can bless you. That is why Paul was really exhorting us concerning the unity of the church, so we can have God’s peace. Peace from purity. ~Thomas Watson~
