Daily Devotional: Friendships and Alliances 2 Chronicles 21:6 “He [Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat] walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord.” Jehoshaphat taught Judah to fear the Lord and to seek the Lord. However, his alliance with Israel and the house of Ahab destroyed his kingdom. He gave his oldest son a wife who was Ahab’s and Jezebel’s daughter. He also was attracted to the wealth of Tyre’s trading fleets and with Ahab’s help he tried to build his own. Peace and prosperity in alliance with wickedness come at great cost. The trading ships were destroyed and never sailed. Jehoshaphat’s son’s family was killed by raiders and he died a painful early death. We must both seek the Lord and hate evil. Our alliances and friendships are noted by the Lord and they shape our values, our ways and our future. Jesus, deliver me from friendships that take me away from knowing and following you.
