Daily Devotional: God’s Mercy Romans 9:16, 18 “It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.” As we understand God’s election of Israel and his covenants through history, we understand that there is no room for pride or boasting amongst God’s people. We have received mercy in the sovereignty of God and our salvation is fully dependent upon Christ’s salvation work on our behalf. It is God’s love and mercy toward us that softens our hearts to respond to his gospel. The longer we live, we sometimes forget that it was not our desire or effort that saved us. Gratitude, humility, worship and thanksgiving are the responses of God’s people who have experienced his grace. Undeserved mercy is the foundation of grace. Thank you Father God, for your mercy to me in Christ. Thank you for forgiveness of sin and the life of the Spirit within me. May my gratitude draw others to you this day.
