Daily Horror Overdose #29 2 more days til Halloween - Halloween - Halloween 2 more days til Halloween Silver Shamrock!... Wacky Wednesday!!! Time for another edition of the kooky! Todays Wacky Overdose comes to you straight from the head of Motown! Well, the son of the head of Motown to be exact. Berry Gordy is responsible for all of the classics. The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson,and...Rockwell. Rockwell is Berry Gordys son, and as the story goes, Rockwell would practically beg his dad to put out his music. Papa Gordy was always hesitant, but finally relented. Rockwell came out of the studio with Somebodys Watching Me, and his dad was not too proud of what his offspring had produced. In order to make it listenable, Michael Jackson was recruited to sing the chorus. MJ was of course on top of the world at the time, so everyone gobbled it up, and it became a hit. (Im recalling the story from memory, and Wikipedia tells it a bit differently. I like my retelling much more) I Somebodys Watching Me it as a kid for of the MJ chorus, and because it was a funny song. As I grew older, I always loved it, but now it was because of its lyrics. I think these are some of the best horror lyrics in music. It basically deals with any paranoia experienced after watching a good horror film. You know, the type of film that sticks with you for days or sometimes weeks after viewing. The type of fear that you cant always shake. Thats how I felt as a child when I was most-likely exposed to horror at an early an age. Ive come to terms with it, and in turn fuels my obsession with horror to this day, I believe. :) My favorite verse from the song is this one: When Im in the shower Im afraid to wash my hair Cause I might open my eyes And find someone standing there! People say Im crazy Just a little touched But maybe showers remind me of Psycho too much. And Psycho is one of my all time favorites. So much so that I seek out Psycho t shirts every time I attend the Rock and Shock horror convention in Worcester. My current shirt total is only 4, but my pal Pabst Blue Ryan tells me they have one at Old Navy. It must be mine! There is some creepy imagery in the music video, too! This is absolutely a Halloween classic and staple as far as Im concerned. So people, always sleep with one eye open, and beware any black cat crossing your path today. And the mailman! BEWARE THE MAILMAN!!! youtu.be/7YvAYIJSSZY
