Daily Reflections #91 (July 18, 2013) 40th Year Church Anniversary I was invited to write a sharing in a church’s 40th year anniversary celebration magazine. I spent 2 nights on writing the testimonial, and the past sweet memories in late 1970’s and 1980’s in Hong Kong Free Methodist Kwai Chung Church surfaced to my mind again. Praise the LORD!! One year ago, my friends invited me to join their church’s anniversary Sunday Service. The pastor and the elders showed some slides on the screen to the congregation to document what the church did for God in the past 17 years. On the way home, I told Elsie that I didn’t feel the joy in the church’s anniversary celebration. I also expressed my view that the church leaders may mix up one thing: it is not what the church did for God, but it is what God did His work through them. Further, church leaders like showing some physical things such as building a church sanctuary, paying off the mortgage,...as evidence of the grace of God bestowed on the church. Reflections: The greatest grace of God is on changing people’s lives, not the building, not the mortgage. This is Paul’s testimony to Timothy (1 Timothy 1:15-17). In Europe, there are many beautiful churches for visitors to appreciate the architect, design, paintings and statues, but the churches are almost empty on Sunday Service. Could you see the grace of the LORD there? 不是教會為上帝做了甚麽事工，而是上帝為自己的工使用了教會。 反省：上帝最大的恩典不是建了一間一間的禮拜堂，不是教會有多快還清按揭，而是重建生命，歐洲有很多空空的美麗歌德式禮拜堂，你見到上帝恩典在其中嗎？ “基督耶穌降世，為要拯救罪人。”這話是可信的，是值得完全接納的。在罪人中我是個罪魁。 可是，我竟然蒙了憐憫，好讓基督耶穌在我這個罪魁身上，顯明他完全的忍耐，給後來信他得永生的人作榜樣。(提摩太前書1:15-16 新譯本)
