Daily Sports Update: According to reports on Yahoo! Spots and ESPN the New York Knicks and Derek Fisher are finalizing a five year $25 million deal for Fisher to become the head coach of the Knicks. With this deal team president Phil Jackson gets what he wants, a former player of his with no coaching experience who Jackson can mentor, the question is will fans get what they want? If fans want a team that can win a championship the answer is no, with their current roster and Fisher at the helm there is little chance the team will contend for a championship any time soon. Fisher has yet to formally announce his retirement from playing something he should do out of respect for his teammates and fans in Oklahoma City before accepting a coaching position. It is very hard to be a player one year and a head coach the next. True Jason Kidd succeeded in Brooklyn this year, but he had veterans players like Kevin Garnett & Paul Pierce to help him build team morale, Fisher has no one like that on the Knicks roster. In addition while Jackson maybe a great mentor he plans to attend practices and be at home games but not on the bench. This will confuse players, who should they look to as their head coach Jackson or Fisher? Of course given the disorganization of the Knicks this coaching hire is a perfect fit, but fans don’t expect a championship or a winning team. #Knicks, #NBA, #DerekFisher, #PhilJackson, #JasonKidd, #OklahomaCityThunder, #NBAPlayoffs
