Dangers of hiring over the Internet, including cyberstalkers: - TopicsExpress

Dangers of hiring over the Internet, including cyberstalkers: Beware. This can be serious. I was trying to hire for assistance with my workload while my mother was in the ICU. An IC (independent contractor) tested, and I told her directly I did not want to hire her due to quality issues. I tried her on every account possible and chance after chance, etc. She did not meet the standards, and the client being hired for went on vacation, which I told her in advance. She then sends me an email threatening me if I do not send her work from that client, she will "send someone to my home to harm me if I do not send his work." Done with that, know I am certain she is crazy and informed her not to do the work I just sent, but she did it anyways. I then sent a check for work performed just 2 days ago (2 weeks early according to stated pay schedule and 4 weeks early for work I told her not to do). I have been cyberstalked ever since, including hundreds of emails and posts on professional boards. I only post this here because several friends also own online businesses, and please (a) be very careful if you own a business with a virtual office, and (b) she is now directing everybody here and attacking my husband, threatening to physically cause us harm, and other cyberstalking activities. She even claims to have filed claims at the BBB and contact clients for.... what... paying her early (as in 2-4 weeks early). I have never come across anybody so (fill in the blanks) and pray she gets the help she needs. I thought I ran into dangerous people while modeling, but this is unbelievable. New policty effective as of now: Only hire people you can speak with in person and check every single reference.
