Danjuma Ahmed wrote~ I have had a great period of time to rest, reflect, ponder and purge my brains of any and every residue of none common and common sense that may interfere with my reasoning vis a vis the open letter sent by my respected teacher and Imam, Dr Sheikh Gumi to General Muhammadu Buhari, - over his intention to contest the 2015 presidency. Of the litany of reasons espoused by the respected Sheikh to justify why GMB should reconsider his candidacy, three items caught my eyes and mind. And I wish to address each, albeit briefly. 1. GMBs age at this time of contest: I most humbly wish to posit that Buharis age is a none issue. As much as that is not a hindrance, that does not preclude any other man even if he was 18 to contest along with him and let the people elect their preferred candidate. 2. Secondly my Sheikh posited that bad guys used the general before and dumped him. And that this scenario was going to play itself out again this time. Agreed these happened in the life of the peoples general. Remember that after the Shagari coupe detat the planners if the coupe made him the head of state whilst he was on his way back to Jos to resume duty at his Division. Point of note, is that he neither solicited for it nor was he at the meeting at which he was made head of state. Surely this did not happen by accident. The coupist shopped for the very best in their midst, an honest, loyal, firm, steadfast and above all a patriotic officer to lead them. That no shots were fired at his toppling was not because he didnt have loyalist or that he was weak. Reports about what transpired at the time showed that GMB had a security brief about the coup and its perpetrators but decided to let them have their ways. The reports had it that his trusted confidante were the people truing to ease him out of Dodan Barracks but since he was not there for self aggrandisement and he had nothing to hide, he did nothing to and about the coupist! If GMB was vengeful, he would have shot all principal actors. 3. Thirdly is GMBs weakness his inability to control men compounded further by his strict and obsessive rejection of corruption: Yah Sheikh, simply because traitorous friends decided to overthrow his government without his fighting them does not mean a man cannot control men. This man you are talking about was a military governor and after being head of state was also the CEO of PTF, and of all stories that has come out from where he served his nation, no one has ever accused GMB of being unable to control men. The successes he recorded at PTF cannot be gotten of a man that couldnt control men. On the issue of obsession with the rejection of corruption, it is my candid opinion that this should be a positive and not a negative. In any case I find the use of the word obsessive by the respected Sheikh as inappropriate and truly misplaced. Because I am of the firm belief that it were not for corruption Nigeria would have been one of the greatest nations I appreciate the right to free speech to all as guaranteed by Nigerias constitution which is the same thing I am expressing here, but it is my belief that the Sheikhs concern would serve the nation better if you channelled it to GMB face to face and not on the pages of paper or the Internet. I, therefore, wish to assert my belief in the capacity, sincerity and capability of General Muhammadu Buhari to take this nation to greater heights if the Nigerian electorates decide to give him their mandate! Nijeriya sai mai gaskiya!
