Darkness is losing. Such a powerful statement. Such a powerful video. Yes, there are more slaves today than ever before in history. However, people are waking to that fact. Locally, more churches and more individuals are stepping up and saying no more. This is the first step to slavery being abolished. Take Labor Day, for example. We will be at Wendys on Common St. to inform people of the issue, show Wendys CEO Emil Brolick that SWLA cares and to stand united with an incredible group of Southern FL farmworkers, the CIW. The CIW has been kicking injustices out of their tomato fields for years now. Let me throw a few stats at you. - Since 2007, there has been 9 cases of modern-day slavery brought to court in Southern FL. - Over 1200 people have been rescued from the tomato fields over there. 1200! - The CIW is doing all of this through getting grocery chains and restaurants to join the FAIR FOOD PROGRAM. This ensures that their tomatoes are grown & picked by tomato workers who are treated like human beings. - The cost: 1.5 cents extra per lb of tomatoes. - Currently, out of the 5 largest fast food corporations in the U.S., (McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, Taco Bell and Wendys), Wendys is the only one who HASNT joined the program. So, on Monday, we will do what has led to so many successes for CIW. We will make the public aware by handing out info sheets, holding signs, giving a petition to the local manager and spreading the story through the news media. There is coming a day when Wendys joins the program. Youll want to be able to say that you had a small part in that. Youll want to be able to say that you stood up for creations of God, whom you have never even met. So lets do it! Lets help bring justice to the Earth. All are welcome to join us. 11am till 1pm on Sept. 1st.
