Darkwing Duck: Episode 86, Hot Spells. This episode was apparently barred from syndication after its initial ABC broadcast in the fall of 1992 (which I remember watching, and this is the first time Ive seen it since then). The reason, supposedly, was because the story involved witchcraft and the prospect of selling ones soul to the devil. Im actually not sure if it was removed from all syndication packages, or if it was only banned from Toon Disney once the license was theirs exclusively. Maybe somebody here knows. Its unclear what motivated the ban. I dont know if any parent or religious groups actually raised objections, or if it was some overly paranoid person at Disney that decided that this one was too risky to continue showing. Either way, its a testament to the random, completely illogical nature of these kinds of things that something this innocuous was barred from broadcast, yet nobody ever seemed to raise any fuss over the Animaniacs episode where Yakko, Wakko and Dot meet Satan, who actually addresses himself by that name. Or that Real Ghostbusters episode where the guys have to escape a contract on their souls theyve unwittingly signed over to a demon. Or any episode of Billy and Mandy. Sigh. Enjoy Hot Spells, which someone appears to have taped off its ABC broadcast. A fairly average episode.
