Data Collection and Analysis The data collection will be primarily quantitative in nature and will lend itself to easy responses from the patients, families, and busy registered nurses. This format and analysis is an excellent choice to determine beliefs, attitudes, and opinions of our participants (Grove, et al., 2013). The questionnaire will be conducted during the discharge phase of the ICU stay. The numerically graded responses of the questionnaires will allow the researches to detect smaller changes in opinion than if a simple yes or no questionnaire were used. The registered nurse providing the discharge teaching will distribute the questionnaires to the patient and eligible family members, then collect the completed forms prior to ICU discharge. Since the data results are primarily quantitative, analysis should be straightforward and easily tabulated. The completed questionnaires will be collected daily and analyzed by the research team following the conclusion of the combined six-month study period. According to Grove, Burns and Gray (2013), this assessment of the data can be classified as direct measurement, and works well with objective and specific data such as ours.
