Date:January 6, 2015 From:Barberton City Schools RE:Justin Winbrenner Jersey Retirement Contact:Rob Culbertson – BHS Athletic Director [email protected] 330-753-2255 (Athletic Department Phone) 330-848-4263 (Athletic Department Fax) On Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 7:30pm The Barberton City School District and The Barberton High School Athletic Department will be hosting a jersey retirement ceremony. At halftime of the Barberton Magics varsity boys’ basketball game against Wadsworth, Justin Winebrenner’s #10 soccer jersey will be retired. Justin was an Akron Police Officer for seven years and was shot and killed on November 16, 2014 while protecting other who were in harm’s way. Justin was a two-year letterman and starter for the Magics in soccer. He was a captain for the Magics and a member of the 2000 Sectional Champions which was the school’s first team to advance to the District level of play at BHS (2000 & 2001). During Justin’s senior year he had 11 goals and 6 assists for a total of 28 points. For his efforts during the 2000 season, Justin was selected 1st Team All-District Division I, 1st Team Western Reserve Conference, Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Week, and Greater Akron Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Senior All-Star.
