(Dave) A vintage fishing boat has just arrived in Kirkwall harbour - TopicsExpress

(Dave) A vintage fishing boat has just arrived in Kirkwall harbour on the first leg of a three year expedition gathering information on fishermen and the fishing industries around the world. The Dagmar Aaen is 83 years old but was built originally to withstand the worst sea and ice conditions that the North Sea could throw at her. After being restored by her owner Arved Fuchs the ship has notched up almost a quarter of a million miles criss-crossing the globe. Now the ship is involved in a project with National Geographic to find out more about the current state of fishing around the world and the thoughts of the fishermen themselves. The ship is moored on the east side of Kirkwall pier and if youre involved in fishing (or have been involved in the past) then Arved or his colleague Harald Schmitt would be interested to have a yarn - so just nip down and say hello. The guys are here till Monday morning. In the meantime heres me having a yarn with Arved and Harald.
