Dave Update (kinda...follow me here, and bear with me...I will attempt to not be long winded...this does have a moral! :) ) Funny how things happen...I am a firm believer that nothing happens by chance, always for a reason, sometimes you just have to quietly search, and pay attention. Long story short we did go to the "Truck Rodeo". I knew that Dave would have a rough time of it because he is not driving, hence could not participate this year. Came across a man the evening prior , and made small talk with him, not actually knowing who he was. Today as we were preparing to go to the event Dave said to me that he felt out of place here, and it was quite obvious what he meant, and how he was feeling. To be surrounded by trucks, and seeing everyone else do what you love to do, have done for 32 years of your life, and are not able to do (at the moment!) would be difficult at best for anyone. So we went, and while we were sitting there, this same man came around looking for people to participate as judges for the rodeo. Turns out he was a safety officer from another trucking company, and recognized Dave from their conversation on Friday evening. So, this year, Dave was not behind the wheel, but behind the flag, and clip board, able to participate as a judge for his driving peers...still a part of something he holds dear! Moral...truth be told when one door "closes"...another does "open"...it truly was a good day.
