Davenport Assumption coach Billy Argo appeared settled in for a long fight with Dallas Center-Grimes for the Class 3-A baseball championship Saturday. Sam Bennett scored from second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Assumption the title - the schools ninth overall - with a 1-0 verdict today at Principal Park. Bennett, who drew a leadoff walk in the inning, got to second on a fielders choice and came home on a single by Zach Adrian. Cole Baker gave 2012 state champion Dallas Center-Grimes six good innings of pitching, striking out seven Assumption batters, and he got some defensive support from teammates such as Tyler Pierson, shown here getting an out at third base to help the Mustangs. Assumption never seemed to lose its focus, scoring 12 of its combined 17 runs in the last two innings of three tournament games.
