Davids Weekly Rant Over J40/41 Closure M4 Just downloaded the proposed Alternative routes for the closure of the above Junctions and the first thing that comes to mind is the fiasco at Water Street when the ramp was installed (rumoured at a wasted cost of £180,000 approx) thats the one that isolated Fairfield and surrounding area. Now due to the total failure of that, your Local Authority wants to do the same but on a grander scale to the whole town of Port Talbot . As I pointed out in my earlier post the whole purpose of the closures is to force traffic onto the PDR (Afan Way). It was stated by the powers to be that turning the hard shoulders at J41 into filter lanes was to dangerous for the traffic (See my second post) yet they propose to narrow the A48 Pentyla/Baglan road down to a width of 7.3 m and introduce parking areas along that stretch as a traffic calming measure, and to try and stop the rat runs. I can go one better and cheaper than that just send a bin lorry up and down twice a day that will stop the traffic. So you can now By pass Port Talbot on the Left or the Right your choice of scenery will help you decide which route to take. Have you noticed that the proposed route has already been detrimental to the environment because they have chopped down 5/6 Trees at the Civic Roundabout in preparation for the trial closure (will they glue the trees back in place when the trial ends ?) However I my be doing our Elected Representatives an injustice by condemning theyre decision to close J41. So lets look at some past achievements by your Elected Local Authority. They knock down a Victorian town which had a wealth of caricature and would have people coming from all over to see the architecture, and let a London based firm build an L shaped monstrosity which takes the revenue from that monstrosity out of the town (If it was square we could have had the market in the middle) can anyone tell me where the old Town Hall clock has gone it was supposed to be fitted to the Civic Centre when it was built, which when built they found was inadequate due to lack of office space, (I wonder who passed the plans for that one then?) They build a 50 foot Toilet (telly tubby mounting ) in front of the only Hotel on the seafront therefore blocking the view of the bay. They knock down the sports centre (undamaged by the fire in the Lido) for no reason at all, (however it was rumoured that the lido site was ear marked for housing development). They spend hundreds of thousand of pounds digging a hole next to a hole (The old boating pool opposite the Lido) for a sunken garden (has anyone seen any flowers in it yet ?) They add to the suffering of bereaved familys not only of Port Talbot but Coity/ Bridgend and Morriston by adding to theyre intake while Margam Crematorium was out of service, as they were arguing with the insurance company for over 18 months who was going to pay for the repairs ( Fix it first argue after its still got to be paid for der ). So ask yourself this question dose this en-still confidence for you in the way your town is being handled by those that have been elected over the years. Time for a radical change I think. As a foot note :- Did you know you are living in the Eighth wonder of the world because when a building in this town reaches 100 years old it suffers from spontaneous combustion not once, not twice but three times and has to be knocked down, and like a phoenix from the ashes new dwellings appear. Amazing dont you think we better put a guard on the Caradock just in case. Remember :- The Dock Hotel The Jersey Beach Hotel The Vivian Hotel The Green Meadow Thats it rant over thanks for reading.
