Dawei SEZ - Preparations for establishing factories and workshops ************************************************************************************** Vice President U Nyan Tun together with Union Ministers and officials made inspection tour to Dawei Special Economic Zone in Taninthayi Region, Wednesday. On arrival at the project site, officials reported on the initial projects for the SEZ and compensation for the project areas. In response to the reports, the Vice President said that priority must be given to establish factories to be able to create job opportunities for local people. He urged officials to implement the project to be able to win the trust of people with the regional development results and to provide assistance for the investors in order to build infrastructures such as water and power supply. The Vice president and party then viewed around preparations for establishment of factories and workshops, progress of resettlement tasks and construction of roads and a port in the project area. Although Italian-Thai Company and Myanma Port Authority signed the framework agreement for the Dawei SEZ in 2010, the financial difficulties delayed the implementation of preliminary project. The MPA and international consultative firms systematically assessed the tasks undertaken by the Italian-Thai Company to enable the investors to continue implementation of the project. Upon completion of signing the agreement with the company, the preliminary tasks of the project can be undertaken. The Vice President and party then inspected Maung-magan beach hotel zone project and construction tasks.
