Day 10 - We continued to hone our heeling skills and also learned - TopicsExpress

Day 10 - We continued to hone our heeling skills and also learned more tricks that the dogs can do. We did play dead (bang!), side and star rush (I think thats what they called it, from Star Wars). The dogs get the commands and roll to their sides. Jasper rolls on his back with his paws in the air. We also discussed microchipping and some of the formalities of handling a service dog. I think most of the families at this point are starting to get a little nervous about taking their dogs home, I know we are. This is a new way of life for us, and it will take time to settle in. We are never alone though. 4 Paws has a private FB group just for families who have questions and to vent, find advice and just general support. We have a direct link to the trainers and they are awesome about getting back to us with any concerns. Dalton stayed with his Nana at the hotel in the morning while we went to training and came to the mall again in the afternoon. He did pretty well again. He was so excited to see Santa, until we got to him and then he got a little scared. We didnt make him sit on his lap, he opted to stay in his chair. This is the first Santa Claus photo for Dalton in 5 years and it marked jumping a huge obstacle that has been up for years. Almost all of the kids have had their picture made with Santa, only Dalton and one other child were left. We practiced heeling more in the mall. Jasper is heeling better for Shelton than me. Part of that, I think, is that Shelton is much taller than I am and his stride is longer. Friday we will be taking our public access test and once passed, Jasper and Dalton will officially be a team and we can bring Jasper home after graduation.
