Day 116 My Welcome Remarks at the CMAAO as President of the Philippine Medical Association, the host member. Greetings from the Philippines! Dr. Margaret Mungherera, President World Medical Association; Dr. Robert Wah American Medical Association; Dr. Vinay Aggarwal CMAAO President, 2013-2014; Dr. Dong Chun Shin CMAAO Council Chair; Dr. Masami Ishii CMAAO Secretary General; Dr. Somsri Pausawasdi CMAAO Past President; Dr. Jose Asa Sabili, PMA Past President and now incoming CMAAO President, distinguished Officers and personalities, Fellow Presidents of CMAAO member countries, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of the Philippine Medical Association, I take great pleasure in welcoming all the delegates and guests to the 29th Confederation of Medical Associations in Asia and Oceania (CMAAO) General Assembly and 50th Council Meeting. This year, the Philippine Medical Association just celebrated its 111th Foundation Day last September 15 and this week we are currently celebrating our 57th National Medicine Day. The PMA is our Mother Organization since 1903 and is the Accredited Professional Organization of Physicians in the country for the longest time. We at the PMA are delighted to have you here to participate and share in this auspicious event. Thank you very much for coming. That many of you travelled long distances serves to remind us all just how important our collaborative work is at CMAAO. I am glad to note that CMAAO is now back in the Philippines after 53 years. The CMAAO was first proposed by Dr. Rodolfo P. Gonzalez, PMA President (1951) and was officially established in 1956 at the Third Meeting of the Southeast Asian Medical Confederation. The second CMAAO Congress was held in the Philippines in 1961. This year’s topic focused on “The Health Database in an Information Society” is definitely appropriate as we address issues of healthcare aided by technology using registries both as an information system and a governance tool to disseminate, evaluate, assist, monitor and oversee all primary healthcare levels. The time is indeed ripe for CMAAO and its Member Country Associations to share experiences about how the influence, innovation and integration of eHealth Databases, can promote the realization of our post-millenial Sustainable Strategic Goals come 2015 and beyond. That goal, I know is something that we all share - the full realization of Universal Healthcare, the sine qua non of our role as physicians. I commend CMAAO in its continued commitment to providing its Member Country Associations with the latest updates on foundational topics relevant to our current contexts in healthcare. I trust that such efforts redound to enhance and promote camaraderie among our ranks especially with members of your respective Member Associations. Let us continue to strengthen the organization from within even as it continues to hurdle challenges from outside, as this is the essence of organizing into groups. Rest assured, that the PMA as the umbrella organization of all medical organizations in the Philippines, shall support CMAAO in all its worthy undertakings. Prepare yourself to be challenged, excited and inspired. And before I handover to the next speaker, I want to say once more on behalf of the CMAAO organizing committee, welcome. Its a pleasure to see so many of you here. Mabuhay to the CMAAO and the PMA!
