Day 19 - I am thankful for the ACA. I spent an hour on the phone with my insurance carrier over a bill for $6k for an $8k procedure because the Dr. submitted the request wrong and the hospital billed the carrier wrong, and none of which I have anything to do with. But it is my responsibility to pay so I drove to the Dr office for copies of the pre-approval to take to the hospitals patient billing so I can depend on the hospital and carrier to work it out w/o impacting my credit! At the end of the day I have always had really good insurance but still face a devastating bill with it. I am thankful that people who are facing health struggles will not also have to face choosing between care or death. Its not perfect I know but guess what, neither is the existing system as Ive seen today. So for those who can soon focus on getting well and not worrying about if they can afford to live, I am thankful because I believe the ACA will lighten their load some. Having Insurance has lighten mine.
