Day 2, Song 2: the other musical influence in my teen years. As a middle-class white male, Im the posterboy for Privelege. In a time before Google, Public Enemy gave me edutainment about the plights of those less-fortunate in America, South Africa, and even here in Canada. I looked up people and events they referenced, and had my eyes opened. Strangely though, I was also filled with optimism about the future. Like our species could learn from mistakes, and Progress beyond our pettiness. Two decades later Im back to being pessimistic & jaded, but PE continues the fight on various fronts.
