Day 2 of our spotlight on SNAC artist, Maggie MacLellan! Here are a few words from Maggie about her work. Make sure you check out her piece titled Rabbit paper mache sculpture. Using simple materials, I endeavor to capture beauty in animals in the manner of the 19th Century Animiliers, while also capturing the myth and mystery that enveloped animals back to the time of the cave paintings of Lascaux, France. To invite the view to stop for a moment, to explore the concepts of feral vs. domesticated. To invite the viewer to step into the story, explore the myth, to hear the animal cry at night, in the dark far from civilization.
