Day 2 of positive/encouraging posts! Today I have been thinking of the story of Job. He lost everything in a day! He said naked I came from my mothers womb & naked I will return, the Lord giveth & the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. In todays prosperity movement in a lot of churches, people who arent doing well financially or are experiencing great loss or trials in their lives begin to question their faith. We would all do well to remember to go to Gods word & look at the lives of the patriarchs, who were beaten, ship wrecked, imprisoned, stoned, afraid, weeping in the night etc. Faith is a deep seated belief that God is in control in the midst of it all. I think of Horatio Spafford who wrote the hymn It is Well With My Soul after he lost his wife & daughters in a ship wreck. We miss true growth if we constantly live on the mountain tops, in the valley we meet God & we find beauty for ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garmet of praise instead of a spirit of despair, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that HE might be glorified! (Isaiah 61:3). So if youre in a valley experience, look up & be encouraged, you meet your Shepherd there.
