Day 20 of the Sept. name a movie a day challenges question for - TopicsExpress

Day 20 of the Sept. name a movie a day challenges question for today is to name our favorite romantic movie. My pick: Portrait of Jennie. Joseph Cotton and Jennifer Jones fourth movie 1940s teamup is one of my all time fave movies. Cotton is a struggling artist during the Depression who gains inspiration and confidence after his mysterious encounter with an elusive Jennifer Jones who first appears to him as a young girl and in each of their following encounters ages more in leaps to a young woman. Love blooms between the two as she sits for a portrait and the suspense and mystery builds as Cotton gradually learns that Jones character is actually a ghost. Co-starring Ethel Barrymore in great support. The film itself is extremely well executed. Many of the scenes in the film are subtly shown as artistic set pieces, like scenes from paintings and great photographs, with the beginning of some scenes start out with a canvas like background that gradually morphs into a bit more realistic set. And Portrait of Jennie has my all time fave movie line: There is no life until one loves and is loved in return, then there is no death. ~ There must be something about this theme, of love surpassing loss and death, that appeals to me a lot. Other similar romantically themed love across the boundaries of life and death faves are The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Smilin Through. Runners up: Camille and Waterloo Bridge. In the thread below or on your own M4 post please name your fave romantic film.
