Day 24- Personal thoughts and reflections Luke 18:18-43 Summary: A religious leader asked Jesus a question: “Good teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied by asking him why he called him Good. He replied by saying Only God is truly good. Jesus asked him if he knew all the commandments and the man said yes he did and has been following them since he was young. Jesus then told him there was one thing he has never done, which was to sell all his possessions and give the money to the poor, and in then he will have treasure in heaven. Then he told the man to follow Him. The man did not like what he heard because he was very rich. Jesus replies by saying “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!” Jesus explains to his people that whoever gives up important things in life, a house, wife, brothers, parents, children etc. for the sake of the Kingdom of God will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come. Jesus disciples did not comprehend anything that Jesus was explaining to them about the Son of Man being mocked, treated shamefully and spit upon which would come to happen. The bible talks about how the significance of Jesus’ words were hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about. As Jesus and his disciples were walking to Jerico, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road. When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening. They told him that Jesus the Nazarene was going by. He began shouting out for Jesus. The people told him to be quiet, but then Jesus told them to bring this man to Him. The man told Jesus he wanted to see. Jesus gave him his sight because his faith had healed him. Then instantly the man could see and he followed Jesus, praising God. And everyone who saw this miracle praised God too! Genesis 31 Jacob learned that Laban’s sons were grumbling about him. They were jealous that Jabob became so wealthy. Jacob noticed a change in Laban’s attitude towards him. The Lord spoke to Jacob telling him to return to the land where his father and grandfather and relatives were and that the Lord would be with him. God has taken Laban’s animals and given them to Jacob even when Laban tried so hard for him not to have them. *God is always on our side!! He will turn everything around for our good and His glory!! God gave Jacob a dream about the streaked, speckled and spotted males mating with the females flock which would produce Jacob’s flock. *God gave Jacob a key into how he would like to bless him and Jacob reaped the benefits from following the Lord. *God saw how Laban had been treated Jacob and promised to bless and protect him!! *This makes me think about my own life and the little troubles, worries and anxieties I have about it, about not having enough etc. God promises to meet all my needs and he has and I have to remember that!! Jacob, his flock and family fleed from Laban to go back to Jacob’s hometown. Laban tried to go catch him, but then in a dream God warned Laban to leave Jacob alone. Jacob slaved for Laban for 20 years and God is blesses him for all that he endured. *Why did it take 20 years? Why didn’t he realize sooner that Laban was not a good person and should stay far away from him? Laban and Jacob then made a covenant making sure Jacob would never dishonour him or his daughters and grandchildren. Laban kissed them and said goodbye! Psalms 24 The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. The Lord of heaven’s armies is the king of Glory!!!
