Day 25: It was a weird time. I was living in Phoenix alone. I was working a job and serving part-time at a church. I had also started a band. That’s where Pamela McAnerny (Zajac) came in. She lent her vocals to our little band and worked the gigs we had, listened to the long “band-talks”, made every rehearsal and never failed to bring us all a smile when we forgot to bring one on our own. For that season, her family became my surrogate one, with the dinners, hangouts and events. What was surprising is how this little girl created such stability for the rest of us… I mean, sure, she had her crazy moments and all of that, but those were fleeting :-). Every one of us leaned on her at different times for encouragement, for advice - and she became the little sister of the group that kept us in line. I remember overhearing her one night asking our drummer Phil what he hoped his life would be - and then listening as our quiet drummer, who never seemed to talk about those sort of things, shared everything in his heart. Thats one of the ways that Pam is unique… she has this ability to be a confidante for people, to let them know that it’s safe to share, and to listen to them so that they KNOW they are heard. Pam is a nurturer and one of the best! I’m truly thankful for her and the impact she made in each of our lives, in the midst of the music, the crowds, and the noise. #40friends40days
