Day 28s Gripe is Somewhat predictable - the Hunger Games that we call Black Friday. I understand the holiday season is very consumerist. I understand the need for saving, for deals, etc. I also understand that there are limited quantities (scarcity is an economic principle). However, there is some basic logic ignored in a few areas that frustrate me. 1) While a sale is cheaper than usual price, you know what saves more?! NOT BUYING THE THING TO BEGIN WITH! 2) For retailers, I know Black Friday got its name because hopefully it pulls your business out of the red and into profit land. However, opening on Thanksgiving Day, or having some unGodly hour for a sale doesnt make your holiday sales any greater. It does, however, anger your employees. And it turns out that THEY will have a stronger influence on your sales, profit, and business than that dang Midnight Tickle-Me Elsa! Oh, and while were at it, if this day or weekend are all that keeps your business afloat, then I think your business is doomed anyway - as it should be. 3) In your hunt and competition to get that amazing deal or gift for someone else, probably in order to make them happy, if you ignore common courtesy, decency, rules of civility, or even resort to violence and being an asshat, then Ive got news for you - Nobody likes you anyway and we hope the only gift YOU get for Christmas is a criminal record ... And herpes. I hate Black Friday. And Retail. I pray I will never work it again. It is the seventh circle of Hell that Dante missed.
