Day 29: Hours before protestors cast their vote, HKFS and Benny - TopicsExpress

Day 29: Hours before protestors cast their vote, HKFS and Benny Tai called off the referendum and apologized for the confusion. They said they hadnt thought things through. It was probably the right decision, and a wise one. Leaders are not infallible and owning up to their mistakes strengthens -- rather than weakens -- their credibility. Another teachable moment from the Umbrella Movement. Meanwhile... 1. At least one person was arrested for allegedly assaulting journalists and cameramen during a Blue Ribbons assembly on Saturday. Its not very smart to attack reporters, especially those who actually tried to give you some press coverage. 2. Government announced plans to revise high school Liberal Studies curriculum to remove contents about civic participation (no more protests!) and bolster pro-China propaganda (hail the red flag!). Just when we think that the protests are losing steam, here comes another reason to stay right where we are. 3. Pro-establishment politician James Tien 田北俊 was reportedly summoned by the Liaison Office to explain his rank-breaking call for CY to step down, a day after the China press openly criticized property tycoons like Li Ka Shing for not taking a stance against the movement... and for not activating the Lis Field to destroy the protest sites with a mighty typhoon.
