Day 3 of the 30 days of Thanksgiving: I am thankful to be a Floridian. Seriously, people have no idea how much there is to be proud of in this state? We specialize in beaches, rum, key lime pie, sunsets, stealing athletes from Ohio, and making you move from your home state. Yes, we can be rude, obnoxious, and nobody here is quite sure when the whole redneck thing became cool (seriously, why are people from Michigan and Minnesota trying to pull it off? Stop it, youre from up north. Leave country music to us). However, I love to just drive around and look at the water and greenery and realize how lucky I am to live here. Florida has given us the best orange under the sun and lots of great music. Jim Morrison, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Tom Petty all hail from here. Thats just a smidge. Florida also has had an undeniable dent in the hip hop industry recently with T-Pain, Plies, and Flo Rida even. Vanilla Ice loved Floridas swag so much he lied about being from Miami, repped the U in Ice Ice Baby, and still wears his 561 area code (West Palm Beach) necklace when he performs. Shaq left Orlando to play for the Lakers and missed it so much he made them trade him to the Heat. Pro sportss only undefeated team ever is the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Yea, we still brag about that like you Yankee fans brag about all your 27 World Titles most of which happened before 1970 and African- Americans were allowed to play. Floridas dominance is mostly seen on the gridiron. The best football players are born here. The NFLs all time leading rusher is a Floridian (Emmitt Smith), the greatest cornerback ever is from here (Deion Sanders), and the most inspirational players come from here too (Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis, and Warren Sapp just to name a few). Since 1983, either Miami, Florida, or Florida St. has won a national title 10 times. Thats 10 in 30 years or once every 3 years. The only state close is Alabama with a mere 5. Larger states like Texas and California only have a combined 3. Think about that. Weve also had 6 Heisman winners. By far the most for any state and maybe a 7th this year with Mr. Jameis Winston. There arent too many Florida crackers but we have pride of where were from and have contributed a lot of greatness to this country. Word, to your mother.
