Day 3, song 3. And those working out the chronology wont be surprised with the next choice. Though this pointless set of posts isnt about necessarily favourite songs, this one IS my favourite, by my fave band. I didnt really latch on to the first wave of punk, but there was enough going on in the energy and attitude to stir my interest. Some of the music was fab, much of it crap, but the fact that it allowed anyone to believe that they could be in a band was the true spirit of punk and its lasting legacy. This band were never a punk band in a million years, but they had the stripped down power and energy coupled with real musical genius. Then of course there were the impenetrable, evocative imagery provided by the lyrics. This song was - in 1979 and today- perfection. The music matches the lyrics; cold and yet visceral. The lyrics match the music; shards of ice used as a weapon. And of course, the riff and solo by the guitarist who for me surpassed all others with his creativity, inventiveness and ability to make every single note count. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Permafrost by Magazine. https://m.youtube/watch?v=fCzSeeiAFqQ
