BREAKING NEWS: Oscar Pistorius will be referred for psychiatric observation, read my full report of proceedings here: • Counsel is called into the judge’s chambers. • There is some speculation here in court that Oscars counsel didnt hear happy news from Judge Masipa, but Mr Roux and Oscar are talking and smiling so it’s not clear what the decision is. • The orderly gives the announcement that we’ll start soon. • Oscar stands in the dock as Masipa delivers her ruling. • “Alleges or appears… that due to mental defect… Judge Masipa quotes from the criminal code. • She says the Accused may not have raised the issue that he was not criminally responsible...but allegations have been substantiated by Dr Vorster. • He’ll most probably be sent to Weskoppies, as this falls under the jurisdiction of the Pretoria High Court. • Milady say’s that a proper inquiry would ensure that the accused gets a fair trial.
