Day +32 of Transplant #2: Day 20 in ICU. In this last week - TopicsExpress

Day +32 of Transplant #2: Day 20 in ICU. In this last week there has been good and not so good news. When the temporary drain tube in Haydens side was pulled out, they tried to schedule a tunneled drainage tube to be put in his abdomen for the next day. This tube would be better and has a less risk for infection. Hayden had a short lived fever overnight so they had to wait 48 hours to put in the new tube. During this time the fluid had built back up in his abdomen and did not have anywhere to go, concerning us as parents and we were hoping he would not be back in the same situation as the previous 2 weeks. The tunneled drainage tube was finally put in the next day and instantly drained almost 2 liters of fluid. His counts were rising and he seemed once again in the right direction. We then had two days of good when Hayden had no blood in his urine and the output was very good, then we found out about his 100% donor cell engraftment (thanks to his Daddys juicy cells). The bladder scan from Saturday had shown no blood clots, but as always the balancing scale of the medical field had to tilt to the dark side. Early Sunday morning he began to have a hard time peeing and was in extreme pain moving his legs, arms, and moaning loudly. There was a little blood showing up but not much pee. The blood clot in his bladder (from the Hemorrhagic cystitis) was still there and had been blocking his path for him to pee and it looked like his urine was backing up into his kidneys. Monday morning he then went for surgery to have nephrostomy tubes put in his kidneys to help drain his urine (just what he needs is another tube in him.) They were only able to get the right side tube in and decided the left was ok for the time being. Hayden had to be intubated for this procedure (the first time during his hospital journey), and the tube may stay for a few days. This afternoon he began peeing on his own and the new drain in his kidney had not put out much drainage, but this evening the scan showed his kidney was empty. On another good note his WBC is 2.6 and steadily increasing. With the news of his engraftment and rising blood counts, Hayden is continuing to move in the right direction, now his body just needs to heal itself. He did open his eyes tonight and we were able to see our sweet baby boy, knowing he was screaming on the inside, Get this tube out of my mouth!!!
