Day 35: The veteran male yew in the northern section of a 10th century churchyard at Beltingham, Northumberland, celebrating St. Cuthbert, who was heavily influenced by St. Aidan. Two more ancient yews stand in the southern section. The chains and iron bands on the tree were put in place in the 19th century to ease fears it was splitting and would fall on the church. The yew predates the current 16th century church building possibly by as much as 2000 years.
