Day #4 gratitude list........nobody told me I had to do this quickly in consecutive days. Its been like 9 days since my Day 3, but I wanted to do this like I mean it and not just toss confetti. Ive truly thought about this stuff, contemplated long and hard and I WANT you to know me to some extent, to know some of the things that really matter to me or at least have really struck me at this point of my life. I want to give serious thanks to some people, to tell them in public, in print, how grateful I am to them Here goes: 1. Paddi Anne McAndrews She showed me that, proved to me that nightlife without a bottle in my hand could be fun, would be fun and IT WAS fun, many, many years ago. I really dont know how things would have turned out for me if somehow our paths never crossed. She was truly a life-changer for me, obviously for the better. 2.Jim McElroy 3. Bruce Grewell (RIP) 4. Vince Narkiewicz These 3 men are truly men for all seasons and men for all reasons for me. Each of them in their own way and in their own time have given more to me than I could ever repay but they would all DEMAND that make sure to be there for the next guy who needs a hand. Suit up, show up, and be of service. Speak up. Theyve been my role models for the last 25 years. 5 Last, but certainly not least, the former Star Gloria Lewis, the present Star OConnor, my wife. it will be 15 years since we were married on October 23rd at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The adventure continues as we head to a more southern town in Nevada on Monday, Las Vegas. It should be fun. The first time I saw Star I was startled by her beauty and I was determined to get to know her. On our first date I was startled by not only how much she could talk, but by her incredible EARNESTNESS. Ive never met anyone before or since with her level of earnestness. Such passion, such devotion. The subject matter for most of our first conversation was her 10 year old son, Abraham. Yeah, yeah, I know that most mothers really love their sons, but I had never heard anything like this. Anyway, one of the best things of the last 15 years with Star was her allowing me to help raise Abraham and him allowing me to be a Dad, a real Dad to him. He already had a Dad, a fine man indeed, yet THEY LET ME IN. Ive been a very fortunate man. .
