Day 44: (Written 24 hours, after) You all are a part of our family...thank you for taking this journey with us. Yesterday was an incredibly difficult day, but more than that it was a day of blessing. I would like to share with you the days events that led up to my mother gaining her wings. The started as usual, slumber party in the living room, as near to my mothers hospital bed as possible. Woke a few times to give her an extra dose of pain medicine, but nothing drastic. We have been running on adrenaline. Caring for my mother at home, since last Thursday, watching her deteriorate. There was something different about yesterday. From the time I woke, I felt as though she was leaving us. We all stayed close and if we left for any reason we were quick to return. The day included visits from many friends, food deliveries, music, Judge Judy, pedicure for her toes and Wheel of Fortune. Eating and drinking had pretty much ceased several days prior, arms legs were colder, temp was higher and heart rate was off the charts. We knew her time was coming to an end. At 7:40 close friends that were sitting with my mom (I didnt want her alone) came in to let me know my mothera breathing had changes drastically. We gathered around my mothers bed. Everyone holding onto her and holding into each other. Jeopardy in the background. We talked to her, assured her we love her and that we will take care of each other. Her breathing became more and more labored...with a final scrunch of her mouth and nose...a look of sadness, I will never forget, a year fell from her left eye. She then relaxed and was at peace. 7:55pm My Uncle quickly put on Ill Fly Away oh Jesus, Ill Fly Away... We sang and clapped joyously amongst our tears. My grandfather insisted we get the greats on conference call and play the song...and we did. United across this country, my family sending my mother on to her new life. This was an experience I wasnt prepared for, ready for, or wanting. But what I can say is, in honor of my mother, I am so blessed. Some bright morning when this life is over, Ill fly away, To that home on Gods celestial shore, Ill fly away Ill fly away, oh glory, Ill fly away in the morning, When I die hallelujah by and by, Ill fly away When the shadows of this life have gone, Ill fly away, Like a bird from these prison walls Ill fly, Ill fly away Ill fly away, oh glory, Ill fly away in the morning, When I die hallelujah by and by, Ill fly away Oh how glad and happy when we meet, Ill fly away, No more cold iron shackles on my feet, Ill fly away Ill fly away oh glory, Ill fly away in the morning, When I die hallelujah by and by, Ill fly away Ill fly away oh glory, Ill fly away in the morning, When I die hallelujah by and by, Ill fly away Just a few more weary days and then Ill fly away, To a land where joys will never end, Ill fly away Ill fly away oh glory, Ill fly away in the morning, When I die hallelujah by and by, Ill fly away,Ill fly away
