Day 47 (Sun 19th)- I awoke several times during the night. First two times were the German girls coming in and turning the light on, then eating and talking loudly (not appropriate dorm room etiquette). Third time was Rob talking with Dan and Hannah just outside the door about how many late night toasties is too many.. they eventually settled on 5. Finally was Hannah coughing up her lungs for the second night in a row! Then finally the roosters were having a crow off. That was it, again I gave up on any chance of sleep. Mike and Evie were up shortly after so we lounged around on the bamboo beds looking out at the river. Evie unfortunately hadnt been well for a few days and after a self diagnosis we finally agreed that getting proper medical advice was the right choice. She got taken to the hospital for abdominal pains which after some time and many tests was diagnosed as appendicitis. Poor thing! The doctor said in a somewhat confident tone,..Im not a surgeon but I have done it before so I can do it if you want or you can go back to Chiang Mai. So obviously we all helped her get on the first bus back to Chiang Mai. Whilst in town Mike, Rob, Fraser and myself booked our onward travel to Laos for the following day. The afternoon was spent at the slide waterfall. We drove in our convey of mopeds yhrough the winding streets to the nearby waterfall. The local kids were going crazy sliding down the rock face into the murky pool below however our group werent so easily convinced that it was safe. Ewote (Dutch) and Bryan (Canadian) were the only two ballsy enough to risk it and graze their asses down the sloping rock. After some late lunch toasties we returned to Purple Monkey to relax until the evening and of course have a few sneaky bevvies. I had been taunted by so many female travellers who had nose rings, i just wanted mine back and had been talking about it for some weeks. So that evening on our walk into town for dinner we stopped at Cross Tattoo, the only place recommended by our hostel for tattoos and piercings, and finally bit the bullet and got my nose pierced again for the third and final time. If anyone is in Pai and after a tattoo or piercing I would definitely recommend this place. They are very professional and the venue is sterile and well maintained. After losing the rest of the group Mike, Fraser and myself had dinner at Burger Queen (again). Although it would have been nicer to try a new venue i wasnt going to complain as the burgers Were amazing, as always. The boys insisted on leaving their mark on the graffitied walls of the restaurant so began climbing on each other and on the tables and stools to try get their names in a noticible place on the wall. It looked like an acrobatic scene from the circus with Mike balancing precariously atop two stacked tables and a small stool then leaning across the stone archway for a clean canvas. Even with my motherly warnings they still insisted on it. ...Boys will be boys. Back at the hostel a group of us had a late night yoghurt treat and lounged around mesmerised by the beauty of Pai then continued to giggle into the early hours with Bryan & Rob. At 4:30 we eventually crawled into bed as the sun showed its first sign of rising.
