Day 5 of 7-day Gratitude Challenge: (1) the success/significance of my friends: from watching the girls I once knew turn into beautiful, standout, standup and speak out women. Whether Ive known them for 20 years or 2 months, I am blessed to be surrounded by their strength, courage, wisdom and passion to help others and just not themselves. They inspire me. They are the world changers and rule-breakers. (2) Non-Profits: educational, survivor-support systems,empowerment, violence prevention- you name it. Unfortunately we were reminded yesterday of the relevance and necessity of groups like Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center and The Center for Women and Families. It shouldnt take a grainy video for us to take notice, as thousands of victims (both women and men) suffer in silence. We need more men to join the movement (like MensWork in Louisville) or volunteer at BRCC to stand up and show how real men how to act. (3) Grateful for the real men in my life who nurture(d) my value, who dont just validate me, but celebrate me and thankful theres more good men than bad who strive do the same for the women in their lives.
