Day 56 of #100GrumpyDays has arrived, hot and sticky and wheezy! Now, you cannot fail to have noticed that I have a slightly anal nature, especially when it comes to time keeping. I would love to be one of those people who is so laid back they can arrive at a meeting 15minutes late and not be bothered, but let me warn you, if I offer you a job interview and you are 30 seconds late, you may as well just go home. So, when I am due somewhere to be poked, prodded, weighed, blood pressured and bled, I will not want to be late. The journey from work to the doctors takes 40 minutes on a good day, so I give myself an hour and five minutes, plenty of time. I jump in the car, right on schedule, on go the shades, radio 4 on the radio, because that is how I roll, and off I go! Down the road, on to the motorway, and... Bugger! I forgot I was out of fuel... OK, if I hold it together I should be able to make it to the motorway services, just got to be cool... And in to the services, splash and dash, wait for them to take my money, but I am now 15 minutes from where I am due to be with 30 minutes to go. Easy! Stay cool and calm.... Off the motorway, pass the University, along the A6, through the Booths junction, lights on green... 20 minutes to go, 5 minute journey left... Traffic jam!!! And as I sit there with the Countdown clock in my head, watching the time ticking down whilst I creep forward, my blood pressure is rising. I get to the town centre, sweat pouring, come on, come on, 5 minutes left... We reach the Pointer roundabout. I need the cars in front to pay attention... There is a space - Go! Go! Go! Oh! The windows are down and I just yelled that out loud! Pedestrians are giving me strange looks. I manage to weave down through the traffic, park, get my pay and display ticket and race in to the Doctors surgery with less than a minute to spare.
