Day 72 Jacks oxygen requirement was 22% when I arrived this - TopicsExpress

Day 72 Jacks oxygen requirement was 22% when I arrived this morning and he was still on pressures of 6 and 6! Im just so proud of my little miracle. He is just doing so well and its really hard to believe after the tough start he had to his life. Jacks stomach looks a bit smaller (less distended) today. Hopefully now his pressures are being lowered this will allow his stomach to reduce in size, with less air being forced into it. Jack monitors have continued to alarm during each of todays feeds because his oxygen saturation has been so high (over 95%), showing he is happy and content and telling the nurses that his oxygen requirement could be reduced. Todays nurse said how great his was considering his really tough, slow start with tolerating milk. And again during our cuddles his oxygen saturation stayed over 95%. I feel like weve got cuddles sorted again now. He is so relaxed and chilled, I just love it. I am still reading to him and have a couple more books now, which I read over and over. I love watching Jack while he is sleeping. He is just so gorgeous and often very entertaining to watch. I love that I can get Jack up by myself now and can be a bit more independent with him. He only has the two CPAP hoses and two cords (heart rate and oxygen saturation) that I need to organise and manage while holding Jack and carrying him over to the chair, which I would have already moved within reaching distance of the machines and monitors etc. I also ensure the call button is beside me in case I need help now Im in the room alone. Jacks weight today is 2148 grams, officially three times his birth weight! I also gave Jack a bath this afternoon. It was the best bath yet. It felt much easier now Ive done it a few times. Because Jack is so small it is hard to get a good grip on him while keeping him comfortable, but I feel I managed it well today. Im so pleased that he seems to enjoy the water. He was was off his oxygen while we recored this little video clip and he handed it really well. His oxygen requirement didnt go over. 24% during this bath time. Jacks eye swab still hasnt grown anything. Although this can take up to a week its a good sign that nothing has appeared in 24 hours. The nurses have said that Jack should be out of isolation by tomorrow. I really hope this is the case. I doubt they will put me back in Room E, because Jack isnt needing intensive nursing, so Im hoping he will go into Room B where Melissas baby is. Its really quiet in NICU at the moment. There is only four babies in Rooms D and E, but places for 12. And the other rooms are all at least two babies off being full. However Im told Nelson SCBU is full as there is a baby here waiting for a place there. Hopefully there is room in Nelson when Jacks ready to head home!!
