Day 76: whos in control?..ohhhhh hes a stubborn thing today..no exercises, didnt wanna go anywhere...and he made pancakes for dinner..hmmmm usually he states he wants to talk to me about food.. I guess he is declaring his independence..I bet those pancakes were awful chewy..I believe they were microwaved and should have been toasted..its ok tho, there was enough syrup on them to give the spoon diabetes. We had a good talk about his medication..he doesnt want it...it got pretty frustrating for me, as i know this was a major contributor to his initial stroke..resistance is futile, I am a mom, I have red hair, and I can assure you, he did and will take his medication..if I have to wrap it in cheese, stick it in a hotdog, or break it up in applesauce! I got skills..lol. I managed to run some errands and have coffee, dessert and an early supper with my laughing buddy..somehow, that always makes for a good meal..I thank God for my friends, as your comments really do keep me inspired to continue the fight..I aint gonna lie, there are times I just wanna throw my hands up and quit..But, I never walked away from a good cause, not gonna start now, hes come so far, he just doesnt remember..I have videos I play from the first few days, it kind of puts things in prospective for him. Memory loss is a big challenge, day to day..and there are days it is like that movie, Groundhog Day, but I keep throwing things up against that wall and praying something sticks.. Tom remembered I was his wife, hahaaaa, I dont know who was laughing harder, but, it was a good giggle..it was like a lightbulb came on, literally.. We have been able to avoid depression. Which is a major problem with stroke survivors, and their caretakers. You just have to keep your disappoints to yourself, cry if you must, but not where they can see or hear you. This only makes them feel like they arent gonna make it back. Its a journey, drive the car, play the music loud, and just keep going, if you feel like youre losing ground, get out, refuel, and double clutch that baby! Whos in control? The person in the drivers seat...zoom zoom.. :o)
