Day 8- Optimism We are all equipped with special gifts and talents. Often we realize them, often we do not. Sometimes they are as obvious as a good 40 yard dash, and sometimes as unconscious as inability to unnecessarily stress. I personally feel as if my greatest gift was (in it’s broadest use) optimism. This means loving people by desiring the best for them, finding the strength for myself in struggles and leading others to their strength, and moving on past things that do not need to be in my consciousness- such as a bad test grade or a rude remark. I’m so thankful that I have the ability to see the light in the darkness, and give as much light as possible to those who just cannot do it themselves. This is a strength I hope to utilize in God’s honor at all times, because after all He DID design me to be optimistic, and I will use his given talent for Him. Day 9- Cecil Shelton Sr. This is hard. My heart is full of more love for Papa than I ever have and ever could put into physical or verbal words. Papa is the ultimate light of God in my life. Papa saw me every single day for the a little more or less than the first 2 years of my life. Papa loves not only me, but his family, and even his enemies. Papa does everything in God’s honor that he can. His humility is so great, that hardly anyone knows how great he really is. I model myself to be the man he is. Only Papa himself actually believes I could be half the man he is. I know my ultimate purpose in life is to make him proud, and give back to him as much as I can. That’s a tough job because he has no pride, and won’t take but only gives. Whenever I rejoice in The Lord, I first make sure he’s not working, and then I call Papa and just remind him that without his example, I would not be where I am today in my personal achievements or my walk with Christ. Every time I lose focus, I think of how he works and would NEVER quit. Most of all, I hear his voice saying “Son, THE LORD will provide, he always has, and always will.” And “Cody, I haven’t missed A SINGLE DAY, not ONE SINGLE DAY, of praying for you, that He will give you guidance.” I am forever grateful for the best man I know. Day 10- Technology Technology can be evil. But so can food, nature, and women. The thing is, we can eat in thankfulness, enjoy the sunshine and the storms, and seek the good women and not the bad girls. We can let technology consume us or we can use it for good. I love it as a tool for good from trying to cure cancer to keeping in touch with our loved ones. It makes life all the more enjoyable. Day 11- Education My personal path to purpose and beyond. I was born with just enough ability to MAYBE be considered smart. JUST smart enough to get into UGA, and dumb enough to struggle here. I am so grateful for education not only for the opportunities it provides in a career, but in the wealth of knowledge and intuition it gives us! It is this wonderful wealth that has led me to a passion for education. My struggles only give me motivation to one day temper the struggles of middle school aged children. I want to teach them what it means to learn- not only what they see in the textbook and the structure of the essay, but the deep meaning of the text and the ideas expressed in the essay. Ultimately, inspire them to achieve higher in THEIR education than anyone before them has ever done. Use THEIR talents to succeed. Day 12- Wealth Not money. Money is paper and metal. It makes the world go round. Wealth in a fruitful life is what I am thankful for. If I only had one penny to my name, either my God is telling me that I only need that penny for His glory and my own happiness or that He wants me to pray in faith to him for the money I do need, and He will provide it. I came from a family that wasn’t abundant in material wealth but we embraced each other in spiritual wealth. Papa thinks he’s the richest man in the world when we have a family get-together. I’m very, very thankful for wealth and joy in my life and in the world. Day 13- Love Ah, the greatest thing He gave us. Not only did He give it to us, but He IS it. I love everyone. I am thankful that I have things to love and that He loves me so dearly. Oh, How He Loves! “The essence of Love is to desire the Ultimate Good of the one we love.” I put thought into that of every person I come across that I desire the ultimate good for them. I love love. Day 14- Exercise Although I’ve hardly worked out since I’ve been here, I still have a passion for the incredible things the body can do. I enjoy how we can use it to release stress, shape ourselves, or just because it makes us happy.
