Day One - Hate Crime Awareness Week We are focussing on Religious Hate Crime today as part of Hate Crime Awareness Week “We keep a low profile, we have our faith; it’s a sad thing that we don’t have freedom.” Asaf, victim of faith hate crime in South Wales (taken from the All Wales Hate Crime Research Project) Key Facts about Religious Hate Crime (taken from the All Wales Hate Crime Research Project) • Faith hate crime victims were most likely to report hate crime experiences to the police (47%); • Victims that did not report to the police one third (32%) stated they did not do so because they believed the police could not have done anything to help; • Fifteen percent of hate crime victims surveyed had attempted to conceal their religion in order to reduce the risk of hate crime victimisation Although victims of religious hate crimes were recently found to be the most likely to report to the police, this category of hate crime makes up the lowest proportion of recorded hate crimes on Gwent Police’s systems.
